Beginning of Editing

In the past few weeks of our media lessons, we have begun to film and then edit our footage for our teaser trailer. During after school hours, Mercedes and Hayley filmed the opening and closing scenes to our trailer. These were shot in the school diner, in the seating area. We chose to film these particular scenes in this location because we firstly thought that it was an easy area for us to all get to. The dining area has leather chairs and coffee tables, making it look a lot like a modern cafe. We felt that this look was appropriate for our opening and closing scenes because these were the ones of the couple in their older years, when they were being re-united at the interview. We thought that a cafe would be an appropriate place for a formal interview between a journalist and an actress.
The trailer opens with our male journalist sitting at a table stirring his drink. He then looks up to see the actress enter. We used a mid-shot for this, as we thought that it would help to set the scene. We then cut to a close up shot of Mercedes walking into the dining area, starting at her feet and panning up to her face and zooming out as she gets closer. We felt that this was a good shot to use, as this kept a sense of mystery about the character. Next we move on to the journalist greeting the actress. They shake hands, and he shows her to a seat opposite him, but she chooses the one next to him. We used this scenario to introduce a comical element to our teaser trailer, and to also show the type of relationship between the two characters. This was filmed using a mid-shot, in order to fit in all of the characters actions. Between the scenes we have captions come up on screen. These say things which describe what is happening, but don't give away what happens in the film. For example, the first caption, just after the two characters are re-united is something along the lines of 'it's been years...' This explains to the audience that the two characters are being re-united after a long time. This then leads smoothly into the flashback of their childhood.
On Thursday we will be taking the younger set of photos so that they can be edited over the holidays and our poster will be completed by the time we're back at school, and we can then finish filming. We need to film the younger scenes of our male and female character, when they were both at school and then the male was the stereotypical clumsy boy chasing the popular girl.
We also need to organise a soundtrack for our trailer, which we are finding difficult because of copyright issues.

Magazine Cover

This is a preview of our final copy of our magazine cover. As we had to change who were acting in our teaser trailer, we had to change the images that we were using for our poster and our magazine cover.
The audience for our magazine is the same as the audience for our film, the photo of the smiling couple would invite readers to the magazine as they seem friendly and happy. The colour scheme of pinks and blues are generically used in romantic comedy films and we thus decided to continue this stereotype with our cover. This way, the audience know what to expect from our magazine, and it relates well to our film.
Because we created our own magazine from scratch, this meant that we were able to design everything ourselves and use our own ideas, instead of using the basis of an existing magazine such as TOTAL FILM.
